Dana Maxim (they/them) is an emerging performance artist and theatre maker from Chișinău, Moldova. Their practice combines artistic research, storytelling, movement, and voice to explore how political and social contexts shape trauma, memory, and their bodily traces. While their earlier works are primarily text-based, the recent performances explore duration, stretched temporalities, and silences, creating spaces for reflection where softness and gentleness coexist with exhaustion, pain, and stories of violence. Their current artistic research is expanding towards questions of bodily autonomy and violence, migration, labour, care, and borders.
In 2024, their performance Domestic Foreigner, based on Dana´s autofiction text Dreaming of Migration, was awarded the Grand Prix at Tbilisi Student Theatre Festival. In 2018, their play The Art Student, a manifesto of a rebel, was awarded first place at the National Young Playwrights competition Prosccenium, by Bábes Bolyai University, Romania.
Currently, they are studying at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies, Giessen, Germany, and work as a performer, dramaturg, or light designer. From 2016 to 2019 they were a part of the Creative Writers Atelier of Moldovan playwright Inna Ceborari.
