Light Design

Besides my artistic practice, during my studies at the Institute for Applied Theatre, I have developed skills in programming and designing lights, mainly for theatre performances. Therefore, since 2022, I have started to assist and collaborate with various groups and festivals across Germany. For a while, I was very interested in fog and white lights, and played with them to create texture and images that would enrich the performances’ minimal stage design.

Below you will find a snippet from a selection of projects I worked on over the last 4 years. For more pictures, please click the performance titles.

The flickering flame of memory, by Santiago Mariño

Mousonturm Frankfurt am Main

Niezaležnaja Respublika Mroja /// meet me halfway by Hanna Launikovich

Mousonturm, FfM

In this collaboration, I was invited to take care of both: build a miniature of a Khrushchovka building as a stage design and do the light design. Arriving in Studio 1 at Mousturm, I was interested in combining the afternoon lights coming through their big window (that somehow repeats the patterns of the Khrushchovka) and the stage lights. The performance took place right at the hours of sundown, and the room light came to create a contre-jour, combining the fast temporality of the day and the spectacular light of the party, as Hanna performs a DJ set entangled with poetical memories of her life in Belarus.
